Energy Efficiency in the Light of Global Developments
We would like to thank Onur Ünlü, ESCON Energy CEO for sharing her valuable knowledge and experience with us by participating in the seminar titled “Energy Efficiency in the Light of Global Developments” organised at our university within the scope of ‘Energy Efficiency’ course.
In the seminar drew attention to the following topics:
The capitalist system was shaped on the basis of the increase in consumption after 1945. This structure shifted production to countries with cheap labor, environmental destruction accelerated.
Climate change is no longer a scientific debate, it is a living reality. Disasters such as floods, fires, droughts and water scarcities are increasing globally.
Beyond being an environmental threat, the climate crisis has become a new economic battlefield. Even if global warming is limited to 2°C, the world economy is expected to shrink by 11%.
The twin transformations (green and digital) form the basis of sustainable development. It was emphasized that Turkey should manage this process with a holistic strategy.

Clean Energy and Hydrogen in Green Transformation
We would like to thank Mr. Fatih Kuşçu, Secretary General of the Green Hydrogen Producers Association (H2DER), for participating in the seminar titled “Clean Energy and Hydrogen in Green Transformation” organized at our university as part of the “Energy Efficiency” course and sharing his valuable knowledge and experience with us.
In the seminar drew attention to the following topics:
The Role of Green Hydrogen: Mr. Kuşçu emphasized that green hydrogen will play a critical role in Turkey’s sustainable energy vision and that this energy type is strategically important for reducing carbon emissions and transitioning to clean energy.
Renewable Energy and Capacity Increase: It was stated that Turkey aims to quadruple the capacity of its wind and solar power plants by 2035, and that significant investments and strategies have been developed in this direction.
The EU Green Deal and the Harmonization Process
Energy Security and Global Developments: It was stated that energy supply security has become even more crucial, especially in the context of geopolitical developments (e.g., the Russia-Ukraine war), and therefore, green hydrogen is considered not only an environmental but also a strategic resource.

This seminar was a valuable event that strengthened the sustainability vision and raised awareness about industrial transformation and digital transformation.

Energy Efficiency and Green Financing
We would like to thank Seyran Hatipoğlu, Senior Advisor of EcoMuse Green Finance, for sharing her valuable knowledge and experience with us by participating in the seminar titled ‘Energy Efficiency and Green Finance’ organised at our university within the scope of ‘Energy Efficiency’ course.
In the seminar, especially the effects of climate change on macroeconomic indicators and financial systems and the role of green finance in this context were discussed.

Energy Efficiency
We would like to thank Dr. Bilal Düzgün, Head of the Energy Efficiency and Environment Department (EVÇED), and his team at the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources) for participating in the seminar we organized as part of the “Energy Efficiency” course, planned to be implemented at all universities by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), at the request of EVÇED, and for sharing their valuable knowledge and experience with us.
Highlights of the seminar:
- Energy Efficiency and Climate Change: It was emphasized that energy efficiency not only provides economic benefits but is also a critical tool in combating climate change.
- National and International Goals: The goals of quadrupling Turkey’s installed renewable energy capacity by 2035, increasing its nuclear capacity by 2050, and investing in future technologies such as battery storage and hydrogen were highlighted.
- Net Zero and Emission Reduction: The net zero target requires a 3% emission reduction each year, and the importance of accelerating renewable energy and energy efficiency investments was emphasized. • Carbon Neutrality Target: It was stated that Turkey is steadily progressing towards its carbon neutrality targets despite its 0.6% share of global emissions.
EVÇED Group Coordinator Burhan Güldibi also shared information on financing energy efficiency projects, while EVÇED Planning Group Coordinator Hatice Artuner addressed career opportunities for young people within the ministry.
This seminar increased interest in energy efficiency and provided an important perspective on sustainability and environmentally friendly approaches. We will continue to spread awareness, raise awareness, and contribute to the transformation of this field with such events in the future.

On the Way to Sustainability with MNG Cargo
The seminar titled “On the Way to Sustainability with MNG Cargo,” jointly organized by the Career Center, the Sustainable Development Practice and Research Center (SURKAM), and the EU-TRADE: Green Deal, Sustainable Trade and Türkiye’s Integration Jean Monnet Module, was successfully held with strong participation.
During the event, representative from MNG Cargo shared insights into the company’s sustainability vision, its green logistics initiatives, and the strategic transformation steps taken to reduce environmental impact. Key themes included operational innovations aimed at lowering the company’s carbon footprint, process improvements guided by circular economy principles, and strategies designed to strengthen sustainable competitiveness within the logistics sector.
Participants had the opportunity to learn first-hand that sustainability practices in logistics are not merely a matter of corporate responsibility, but also a critical component of long-term value creation and adaptation to the evolving norms of international trade. The interactive Q&A session further enabled students to directly engage with experts and explore the sector’s ongoing transformation.
This seminar represents a significant contribution to our university’s mission of raising awareness in the field of sustainable development and connecting students with the current dynamics of the business world. We extend our sincere thanks to all participating students, faculty members, and the representative of MNG Cargo for his valuable contributions.

2 Black Swans and the Future of Green Transformation

Topics covered included the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine War, Türkiye’s renewable energy potential, and the impact of the European Green Deal.
Sustainability 101 – Artificial Intelligence and Sustainability in Manufacturing
Within the scope of the “Sustainability 101 Training Series” organized by the Sustainable Development Practice and Research Center (SURKAM) and the EU-TRADE: Green Deal, Sustainable Trade and Türkiye’s Integration Jean Monnet Module, Dr. Adem Kayar delivered a comprehensive session titled “Artificial Intelligence in Production and Sustainability.” The training focused on the integration of Industry 4.0 components with sustainability principles.
In this context, key Industry 4.0 elements—including smart factories, smart robotics systems, cybersecurity, augmented reality, the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, 3D printing technologies, cloud-based solutions, and process analytics—were examined in detail.
Today, nearly all professions intersect with Industry 4.0 components, and the effective integration of data relies on correlation analysis and optimization processes enabled by machine learning. This approach allows businesses to minimize costs, enhance operational efficiency, and align more effectively with their sustainability objectives.
