International Social Sciences Research Congress
The International Congress of Social Sciences Research, hosted by Istanbul Medipol University and organized in collaboration with the EU-(TR)ADE Jean Monnet Module, the School of Social Sciences, and the Center for Sustainable Development Application and Research (SURKAM), has been successfully concluded.
The International Congress of Social Sciences Research, hosted by Istanbul Medipol University and organized in collaboration with the EU-(TR)ADE Jean Monnet Module, the School of Social Sciences, and the Center for Sustainable Development Application and Research (SURKAM), on May 26–27, 2025, has been successfully concluded. Held as part of the 10th anniversary of the School of Social Sciences, the congress established an international interdisciplinary academic discussion platform around the themes of sustainability and development.
The opening session was moderated by Prof. Dr. Rana Atabay Kuşçu, Director of the School of Social Sciences and SURKAM at Istanbul Medipol University. Throughout the congress, academics, researchers, and public and private sector representatives from various universities came together to share their knowledge and experiences on the European Green Deal, sustainable development goals, and transformation in the social sciences. During the two-day sessions, special emphasis was placed on strengthening shared wisdom and collaboration for a sustainable future.
The event contributed to the strengthening of international scientific networks by creating a tangible impact in line with the EU-(TR)ADE Jean Monnet Module’s vision of knowledge sharing, interdisciplinary dialogue, and sustainable development. The discussions and presentations held during the congress are expected to contribute to the development of the university’s sustainability-focused research capacity and to increased interaction among stakeholders.
Sustainability Summit
Organized in collaboration with the EU-TRADE: Green Deal, Sustainable Trade and Türkiye’s Integration Jean Monnet Module and the Istanbul Medipol University Sustainable Development Practice and Research Center (SURKAM), the Sustainability Summit was successfully held on Thursday, 17 April 2025, with the participation of distinguished experts from the public sector, private sector, and academia.
The summit provided participants with a comprehensive platform for knowledge sharing, policy analysis, and sectoral vision building, offering multidimensional assessments on the present and future of sustainability within the domains of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues.
Throughout the sessions, global trends in sustainable development, the requirements of Türkiye’s green transformation, financing mechanisms, corporate sustainability strategies, the implications of the European Green Deal, and sector-specific practices were examined in depth. Speakers shared up-to-date evaluations regarding compliance with evolving international regulations, sustainability reporting, next-generation investment standards, and corporate impact management.
Participants had the opportunity to gain profound insights into the strategic importance of sustainable transformation within a multidisciplinary framework. Panel discussions and interactive Q&A sessions enabled a holistic evaluation of sustainability across the dimensions of economics, finance, energy, production, international trade, and corporate governance.
The summit, jointly organized by the Jean Monnet EU-TRADE Project and SURKAM, represents a significant output of our university’s mission to generate knowledge, raise awareness, and strengthen collaboration between the public sector, private sector, and academia in the field of sustainable development.
