The Jean Monnet Actions in the field of Higher Education support teaching and research in the field of European Union studies worldwide.

European Union studies refer to the teaching, learning, and research about the European Union, its history, aims, structures, functions, and/or its policies.

By focusing on the European Union dimension, the Jean Monnet activities should promote active European citizenship and the founding values of the European Union of respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law, and respect for human rights, including the rights of persons belonging to minorities.

Jean Monnet Modules are short teaching programs or courses in the field of European Union studies offered at a higher education institution. Each Module has a minimum duration of 40 teaching hours per academic year for a duration of three years. Modules may concentrate on one particular discipline in European studies or be multidisciplinary in approach and therefore call upon the academic input of several professors and experts. They can also take the form of short specialized or summer programs.

Modules aim to support teachers in primary, secondary, and vocational education to inform young people and develop critical awareness about the European Union, what it stands for, how it works, and what difference it makes to their daily lives.

Activities organized under this section will also create new opportunities for professional expansion regarding the European dimension of teaching at school, in particular on teaching about the European Union.
